Nellie Mahala, the oldest child of David and Emma, was bom 25 Aug 1882 at Sioux Falls. She married Roelf Johnson Weiland on 18 Mar 1903. Their children are: Charles Merle, Earl Kenneth, Benjamin Roelf, Russel Lloyd, Stanley Arthur, Ray and Robert. Nellie died 27 Sep 1956; Roelf died in 1939. Both are buried at Riverside Cemetery near Canistota, SD. Roelf's father donated the land for Riverside Cemetery.

Julia Estella “Stella”, the second child of David and Emma, was born 23 May 1885 in Sioux Falls. She married Wilmer Arthur Gordon on 24 Nov 1909 in Canistota. Their children are: Velma Lucille, Ralph James, Viola E. and Roy Arthur. Julia died 21 Aug 1957 and Wilmer died 18 Feb 1957. Both are buried at Riverside Cemetery.

Ernest Ray, the third child of David and Emma, was born 22 Jan 1889 at Sioux Falls. He married Emma Len Weiland on 10 Dec 1911. Their children are: David B. and Harold Luvern. Ernest died 6 Aug 1960.

Myrtle Mae, the fourth child of David and Emma, was born 30 Jan 1892 at Canistota. She married Edmond Silence Weiland on 16 Nov 1910. Their children are: Lyle E. Kenneth Leroy, Lester W. and Lela Mae. Edmond died 9 Nov 1937 and is buried at Riverside Cemetery. Myrtle married Louis Fisher in 1961. Louis died in 1964 and Myrtle died 3 Feb 1964 in Canistota. She is buried in Riverside Cemetery.

David and Emma were members of the Riverside Methodist Church near Canistota. They were life long farmers. David died 15 Mar 1905 as the result of a farm accident and Emma died 18 Mar 1944. Both are buried in Riverside Cemetery.

Nathaniel Banning was born 4 Mar 1847 in Greene Co., Wl, the son of Phineas and Mahala Frances (Blue) Banning. Phineas was born 17 Oct 1815 in Muskingham Co., OH and Mahala was born 17 Jan 1821 in Wayne Co., OH. They were married 10 Dec 1840 in Coshocton Co., OH. Nathaniel’s brothers and sisters were: Elizanne,

John William, Abraham, Elizabeth Jane, David, Peter S., Susana, Richard, Nancy Asbury, Mary Frances and Phineas Michael. Nathaniel married Debrah Cary (b. 4 Apr 1854) 14 Nov 1871. She died 9 months later on 2 Aug 1872 and is buried in Centennial Cemetery near Ossian, IA.

Nathaniel married Julia Matilda White, born 7 Jul 1857 in Simcoe, Norfolk Co., Ontario, Canada. She was the daughter of Henry Winters White and Lydia Clarinda Baumwart. Henry was born 21 Feb 1831 and Lydia was born 26 Apr 1834, both in Canada. They were married 3 Nov 1852 in Charlotteville, Norfolk Co., Ontario. Julia's brothers and sisters were: Nathaniel Winters, Clarinda Catherine, Samuel Henry, Charity Rebecca, Emma Elizabeth, Eber Wesley, Ernest Ephraim and Hiram Winford.

Nathaniel and Julia were married 25 Dec 1875 in Decorah, IA. They had 4 children: Millie Mabel, twin girls who died in infancy, and Florence May.

Millie Mabel was born 24 Jun 1880 in Ossian and married William Andrew Spinner 18 Aug 1898 in Ossian at the Banning home. Their children are; Mabel Marie, Earl Nathan, Nellie M. and Gladys Lucille. Millie died 11 May 1955 and William died 16 Aug 1964. Both are buried at the Hills of Rest Cemetery in Sioux Falls, SD.

Florence Mav was born 26 Aug 1886 in Ossian. She married Frederick Charles Ondrozeck on 22 Jun 1910 near Canistota, SD. Their children are: Jerry Nathaniel, Joy Julia and Waldo Russel. Florence died 8 Nov 1966 and Frederick died 13 Jan 1934. Both are buried at the Canistota Cemetery in Canistota.

Nathaniel died 25 Sep 1937 and Julia died 16 Mar 1933. Both died in Canistota but were buried in Centennial Cemetery near Ossian.

Phineas Banning was born 17 Oct 1815 in Muskingham Co., OF, He was the son of Nathaniel and Nancy A. (Hall) Banning. Nathaniel was born in 1788 and Nancy was born 3 Apr 1797. Phineas married Mahala Frances Blue, who was born 17 Jan 1821 in Wayne Co., OH. She was the daughter of Abraham and Susannah Blue. Susannah died 17 Oct 1874 and is buried at the Centennial Cemetery near Ossian, IA. Mahala’s known brothers and sisters were: Eliza Jane and John.

Phineas and Mahala were married 10 Dec 1840 in Coshocton Co., OH. They had 12 children: Elizanne only lived ayear; John William; Abraham married Mary Harvey; Nathaniel; Elizabeth Jane married Joseph Weitgenant; David; Peter S. married Mary Cole; Susana married Frank Allen; Richard; Nancy Asbury married Thomas Logsdon; Mary Frances married Christian J. Vance and Phineas Michael married Cora Vance.

John William, the second child of Phineas and Mahala, was born in Ohio during 1843. He married his cousin Catherine “Kate" Mahala Oxley 25 Dec 1866 in Winneshiek Co.
